20-February-2008 - Adopt a School Project Success

The Bucyrus Adopt a School Program is up and running again this year with fourteen students from Mirani High School, Holy Spirit College and Mercy College attending their worksite induction at Bucyrus in the Paget Industrial area. This was an all day activity conducted by Bucyrus’s OH& Safety officer. The program is an annual project orientated activity that results in the students gaining an appreciation of how an international engineering business operates. It was pleasing to see two young female students in this years cohort both are interested in a career in engineering and design.


20-February-2008 - 2008 Career Expo Coming Soon!

Planning has commenced for this year Career Expo which will be a one day event in June. A steering committee has been established and MRSILS CTS Coordinator “Rhonda Danastas’ will be working with our RICA Colin McPherson to make it a resounding success, we also have an expression of interest from the Rotary Club of Mackay to become involved in this event.


20-February-2008 - Daily Mercury Awards

Sponsorship secured for the 2008 Daily Mercury/School Industry Links Vocational Placement Awards. The awards will take place on the 27th of October and the following companies have again agreed to sponsor different award categories to the tune of $500 each: Woollam Constructions, Ocean International Hotel, Porters Home and building Centre, A.E. Smith Airconditioning, Meng Tyre Sales, Blackwoods, City Fitness Health Club, Rotary Club of Port of Mackay, MRAEL limited and a joint sponsor VAE Railway Systems Pty Ltd/MAIN Limited. 20-February-2008 - Great Start for Indigenous Students

Our Indigenous Students Links with Industry Programme (ISLIP) is off to a great start with 64 year ten Indigenous students from seven schools attending their induction day at TAFE on the 13th of February. This award winning successful programme is in its eighth year, its main objective which it has been most effective in achieving is to improve the participants’ retention rate to year twelve
